Delightful Moments - A Collection of Poems
By Ann Althea Nedd

FEEDBACK

The privilege was mine to meet Mrs. Ann Althea Nedd about a year ago to discuss her desire to publish this book.
Today I congratulate her on becoming the author of Delightful Moments - A Collection of Poems. As her editor, the pleasure was mine to edit and also to produce this worthy book. From beginning to end, it was a delightful read, which began for me as a job with time constraints. The process, however, was a delight to accomplish. My close interaction with her poems, and having to touch base from time to time with the author about her choice of words and also to discuss her preferences, made the process even more delightful.
It is hard not to overuse the word “delightful” to describe my experience with these poems up close and personal, which provoked in me laughter, entertainment, inspiration, motivation, reflection, nostalgia and more. I often had to remind myself that this was a job, not a poetry-reading pastime.
Packed with truth, this book of poems is a wake-up call to the lazy and lethargic. The author manages instruction without offence. Her tone rightly reflects that of teacher, mother, mentor, entertainer and arbiter. The author, in my estimation, is a virtuous woman, responsible and gifted.
Her message brings a long and diverse perspective to the reader as she assumes also the roles of advocate, advisor, and counselor at times. Her poems speak to the young and old alike. With a good command of the English language and a good poetic sense, Mrs. Nedd successfully employs words and imagery that arrest and bring to the fore sights, sounds, smells and sometimes even tastes and touches of Caribbean culture making it easy for the reader to almost ‘see’ sights along with her, and overhear the conversations she describes. More importantly, if readers would receive her counsel and heed her admonitions, it would make the time and effort …most rewarding to Mrs. Nedd.

"An eclectic assortment, this collection of poems is reflective and inspiring, challenging both attitude and perspective. At the same time, the author also charms and entertains with her observations and clever commentary. Spanning topics of culture and the human condition, global issues and personal challenges, I have found Delightful Moments to be a fitting read for any season or occasion."

Delightful Moments

"Delightful Moments" is a collection of poems written during the period 2001 to 2011 by Ann Althea Nedd.

Author's Comments:

I began to write poems on the day of the World Trade Disaster,   my first poem being called "Eleventh September".  Since then,  I have moved according to inspiration and have penned several poems of a diverse nature.

The poems in this book have been divided up under the following headings:-
Delightful Moments
Motivational
Caribbean Culture
Life
Technology
Social Commentary
Inspirational

The poems are straightforward, soul to soul poems and tend to be appreciated by many.  The target audience is the 16 year old and above, any part of the world.

Several persons have suggested that my poems give them a feeling of delight, hence the reason for my title.  The cover of the book comes from an actual delightful moment when I visited the Kaieteur Falls in Guyana.  I penned "O Magnificent Kaieteur" as a result of that experience. This certainly does not make the book a Caribbean book - suitable for Caribbean audiences only.

Here are two excerpts:-

"O Magnificent Kaieteur"
O Magnificent Kaieteur
I hear your thunderous roar!
Your cascading water appears white
Brown and gold
Such a beauty to behold!
Your drop appears white and misty
You mesmerize with your beauty
Both king and queen of the pristine surroundings
Lonely, aloof, but very alluring
You attract many admirers
But you must be courted from afar
You are one of God's scenic wonders
Such a testimony of His great power
O magnificent Kaieteur
I hear your thunderous roar!

"In the Aftermath of the Storm"
Sometimes, during the storms of life
To escape the imminent floods
We need to move to higher ground
We need to move to higher ground

When a storm is over
And the damage we assess
Where damage is minimal
We can go through the recovery process

When everything is damaged by the flood
And all that's left is toxic sludge
If the situation is beyond restoration
Brothers, sisters, we need to move on

But though we need to progress
We must not forget that God is at our side
And with him as our Guide
He will help the healing process

God will help us to move on
In the aftermath of every storm
He will lead us to higher ground
Where the victory can be won
